Youghal
Ireland
Ireland
Youghal straddles Cork and Waterford counties where the Blackwater meets the Atlantic, its 8,500 residents spread along a steep riverbank in a distinctive narrow layout. The N25 puts you 47km from Cork city and 77km from Waterford, with no rail link so you'll be driving. The medieval walls are among Ireland's finest, and the Clock Gate Tower spanning the main street served as both timekeeper and prison, complete with a trapdoor for executions. John Huston filmed Moby Dick here in 1956, turning the harbour into New Bedford for Hollywood.
