Yakima sits in Washington's agricultural heartland, about 140 miles southeast of Seattle via Interstate 82. The city anchors the Yakima Valley's farming region, with I-82 providing the main route through town toward the Tri-Cities or north to I-90. US Highway 12 runs east-west, connecting the Cascades to eastern Washington, while local traffic uses Yakima Avenue and First Street downtown. The restored 1920 Capitol Theatre still hosts performances with its original Wurlitzer organ.
