Wood is a tiny South Dakota prairie town of 40 people in Mellette County, reached via US Highway 83 about 60 miles south of Pierre. The main route connects through US 18 from the east or continues north-south along the 83 corridor. Electric vehicle drivers should plan charging stops in Pierre or along I-90. The grain elevator dominates the brief stretch where the highway passes through town.
