West Smethwick lies in the Black Country between Birmingham and the M54 corridor, accessible via M5 Junction 1 and the A4018 Holyhead Road. Daily routes include the A4092 Cape Hill to Birmingham's industrial areas, whilst the M5 connects to longer journeys across the Midlands. The area offers over 300 EV charging points for electric vehicles. This former industrial heartland was home to the Patent Shaft works, where the world's first successful steam carriage operated in 1801.
