Walker is a former shipbuilding area on the Tyne's north bank, reached via the A186 from Newcastle city centre or the A1 motorway. The A1058 Coast Road provides pleasant routes to Tynemouth, whilst Newcastle Airport sits 15km northwest. Electric vehicle drivers benefit from over 400 public fast chargers across the area. The district houses Segedunum Roman Fort, marking Hadrian's Wall's eastern terminus with its distinctive 35-metre viewing tower.
