Williamstown sits on the Ohio River about 15 miles north of Parkersburg, connected by Interstate 77 and State Route 14. Most visitors arrive via I-77 from Charleston (90 miles south) or from Ohio after crossing at Marietta (20 miles north). The Mid Ohio Valley Regional Airport serves the area just outside town. The city's eastern edge features Tomlinson Run State Park with a small fishing lake.
