Willacoochee is a small south Georgia town of about 1,300 people located along US Highway 82, roughly 30 miles northwest of Valdosta. The main routes are US 82 east-west and GA Route 125 north-south, connecting to Tifton, Fitzgerald, and other regional centers. The town sits in Georgia's pine belt with rolling Coastal Plain terrain and gets its name from a Creek word meaning "running water" after the local Willacoochee River.
