Wheelwright, KY

Wheelwright is a small coal town in eastern Kentucky's Floyd County, home to about 1,000 people in a narrow Appalachian valley. Reach it via US Route 23 from Pikeville (25 miles) or Prestonsburg (15 miles), then KY Route 122 west. The winding mountain roads reflect the challenging terrain that shaped this region. The town was named after coal executive Jere Wheelwright, and its main street still follows the old railroad grade.
