West Okoboji is a small lakeside town of about 400 people on Iowa's premier recreational lake in the northwest part of the state. Highway 86 runs along the western shore while Highway 9 provides the main east-west access, connecting to US 71 and Interstate 90 about 30 miles south. Spirit Lake Municipal Airport is just northeast of town. The community sits at the unique junction where West Lake Okoboji connects to smaller Minnewashta Lake via a narrow channel.
