Vergennes, IL

Vergennes is a small Jackson County community of about 300 people, located 10 miles southeast of Carbondale via Routes 13 and 149. Most visitors arrive from I-57, exiting at Route 13 near Carterville, then heading east to Route 149. Southern Illinois Airport sits just northeast of town for private aircraft. The community operates one of Illinois' few remaining active one-room schoolhouses.
