Torrington is the biggest city in Connecticut's scenic Northwest Hills region, serving as a hub for Litchfield County. Route 8 runs right through town, making it the main connection south to Waterbury and the Hartford area, while US-202 cuts east-west through downtown. Most visitors arrive via I-84 to Route 8 from either New York (about 2 hours) or Boston (2.5 hours). The city sits along the Naugatuck River with rolling hills all around, and it's famous as the birthplace of the can opener, invented here in 1858.
