Ruma is a tiny farming town of about 400 people in southwestern Illinois, roughly 50 miles from St. Louis. Take I-64 west then Highway 3 south through Sparta to reach it. The area's German heritage shines during the annual October Sausage Festival, where locals serve up homemade bratwurst that draws visitors from across the region.
