Old Field is a small village on Long Island's North Shore in Suffolk County, accessible via Route 25A from either direction. Take the LIE to Exit 56, then Route 111 north to 25A east. This quiet waterfront community of about 1,000 residents offers scenic drives along Long Island Sound with winding roads through wooded residential areas. The village houses Stony Brook University's Flax Pond Marine Laboratory, a coastal research facility operating since the 1960s.
