Matthews is a tiny farming town of 500 people in Grant County, reached via State Road 18 between Marion and Portland. It's about 75 miles northeast of Indianapolis via I-69 and SR-18. The area is flat farmland with corn and soybean fields stretching in every direction. The town was platted in 1882 and named after William Matthews, who ran the first general store from his house.
