Lockhart is a 30-minute drive south of Austin via Highway 183 or the newer SH 130 toll road. The town sits in rolling Central Texas terrain where summer heat reaches the 90s and winters stay mild. Known as the official Barbecue Capital of Texas, Lockhart houses four legendary smokehouses that have been serving pit-smoked meats for over a century.
