Jenkins is a small mountain town in eastern Kentucky near the Virginia line, built in a narrow valley surrounded by steep Appalachian ridges. US Route 23 runs right through town, connecting north to Pikeville and south into Virginia, while Route 805 heads west to the county seat in Whitesburg. The area was once home to one of the world's largest coal preparation plants.
