Herndon sits in Pennsylvania's coal country along historic Route 61, about 25 miles north of Pottsville. Most visitors arrive via Route 61 from either Mount Carmel (10 miles north) or connect from I-81. The small community of 366 residents sits in the Appalachian foothills with Penn Valley Airport nearby.
