Fort Sumner, NM

Fort Sumner is a small ranching town in east-central New Mexico, accessible via US Highway 60 and located about 2.5 hours southeast of Albuquerque. The town sits along the Pecos River in high plains country, surrounded by cattle ranches and farmland. Its main claim to fame is the grave of Billy the Kid, whose simple stone marker in the old military cemetery attracts visitors to this remote prairie community.
