Flossmoor lies 25 miles south of Chicago along the old Illinois Central rail line, accessible via I-57 exits at Vollmer Road and 183rd Street. US Route 1 runs along the eastern edge, while Western Avenue provides north-south access for daily commuters. The village developed as a planned railroad community in the early 1900s and maintains its connection to downtown Chicago through Metra's Electric District. Flossmoor Country Club, established in 1899, ranks among Illinois' oldest public golf courses and has hosted professional tournaments for over a century.
