The 4,800-person community sits at 3,500 feet elevation between Sedona and Flagstaff, offering cooler temperatures than the desert floor. Highway 89A connects it directly to Sedona (20 miles) and provides the main route for visitors exploring the red rock country. The town was America's first completely planned community, designed by the United Verde Copper Company in 1912.
