Centre, a small city of 3,700 in northeast Alabama's Cherokee County, sits about 60 miles southwest of Chattanooga along US Highway 411. The main route from Atlanta follows I-59 north to the Gadsden area, then US 411 north through rolling Appalachian foothills. State Route 9 provides east-west access through town. Centre calls itself the "Crappie Capital of the World" and hosts a major fishing tournament on nearby Weiss Lake.
