Burton is a tiny Texas town of 174 people in Washington County, about 70 miles northwest of Houston via US-290 and FM 1948. The most common route brings weekend visitors from Houston through Hempstead, while Austin travelers take US-290 southeast through Giddings. State Highway 237 connects north to Navasota and south to Brenham. Burton houses the last intact 19th-century cotton gin complex in Texas, operating as a living history museum.
