Bicknell is a small Utah town along Highway 12 that serves as a convenient base for exploring Capitol Reef National Park, just 8 miles east. The town sits at 7,200 feet in red rock country, where Highway 12 intersects with Route 24 connecting to I-70 and other national parks. With only 446 residents, it famously didn't get telephone service until 1947, making it one of the last places in the continental US to be connected.
