Benkelman is a small farming town of 900 people in Nebraska's southwest corner, right where the state meets Colorado and Kansas. Highway 34 runs straight through town, connecting east to McCook and west toward Denver. It's about 90 miles from North Platte and sits in classic high plains country with big skies and endless wheat fields. The 1900 red brick courthouse with its prominent clock tower has been the town's landmark for over a century.
