Anvik is a tiny Yup'ik village of 79 people along the Yukon River, 350 miles northwest of Anchorage. No roads reach here - access is by small plane through Anvik Airport or by boat in summer. It's a checkpoint on the historic Iditarod Trail and home to Holy Cross Mission, a log church from 1887 that still serves the community.
