Afton is a small Iowa town on Highway 34, the main east-west route connecting Creston and Red Oak. Most visitors arrive from Des Moines, about 75 miles northeast via I-35 and Highway 34. The town sits in rolling farmland with a continental climate of snowy winters and warm, stormy summers. The Union County Historical Museum occupies a restored 1903 railroad depot from the old Chicago-Denver line.
