Upper Helmsley is a quiet North Yorkshire village east of York, reached via the A166 from Stamford Bridge or the B1228 from the A64. Most visitors arrive on longer routes from Leeds or the A1(M), whilst locals make short trips to nearby villages or York for shopping. The village church houses a remarkable 12th-century Green Man carving, considered one of Yorkshire's finest examples of medieval stone craft.
