Upper Carloway perches on Lewis's wild Atlantic coast, about 20 minutes from Stornoway via the A858. This wee settlement sits amongst peat moorland and dramatic sea cliffs, connected to neighbouring villages by narrow coastal roads. The nearby Dun Carloway Broch is one of Scotland's best-preserved Iron Age stone towers.
