Y Wig lies along the A458 in mid-Powys, connecting Welshpool eastward with Dolgellau to the west. The B4389 provides access south to the A470, whilst local roads serve nearby Llanfair Caereinion with its heritage railway. Approximately 12 EV charging points cover the wider area. The name derives from "gwig," meaning wood, recalling when dense forest blanketed this now-pastoral valley.
