3About Whorlton
Whorlton is a small Cleveland Hills village reached via the A172 from Stokesley or local roads through Osmotherley from the south. Most visitors arrive from Teesside, about 20 kilometres northeast, whilst the A1(M) at Thirsk provides the main motorway link. The village sits beneath dramatic moorland where the North York Moors begin their rise from the Vale of Mowbray. Whorlton's 14th-century castle gatehouse ruins remain remarkably intact, offering one of England's finest examples of medieval defensive architecture.
