3About Waterford
Waterford, Ireland's oldest city founded by Vikings in 914 AD, sits on the River Suir about 15 kilometers from the Celtic Sea. The N25 connects it east-west along the south coast, while the N24 heads northwest to Limerick and the N9 runs north to Dublin via Kilkenny. The city center revolves around the Viking Triangle, where Reginald's Tower anchors medieval streets and museums. The House of Waterford Crystal offers tours of the famous glassmaking process, and the 46-kilometer Waterford Greenway follows the old railway line west to Dungarvan. The Medieval Museum houses the only surviving medieval cloth-of-gold vestments in Europe, discovered in a bishop's tomb.
