Ulundi, KZN's old Zulu capital, lies inland between the Umfolozi rivers, reached via the R34 from Melmoth and Richards Bay or the R66 from Nongoma, with the N2 as the main link from the coast. Thokoza and Mahlabatini are quick local hops, while trips from Charlestown or Phuthaditjhaba mean a proper road trip. The airport is only 5 km from town.
