The Quar

The Quar forms part of Merthyr Tydfil in the South Wales valleys, positioned where the Brecon Beacons meet former industrial communities. Reach it via the A470 from Cardiff (45 minutes) or the A465 Heads of the Valleys road from the east. The valley setting creates a cooler, wetter climate than the lowlands, with morning mist common in winter. Remnants of the old Glamorganshire Canal still mark the landscape from the area's iron and coal heritage.
