Sowood perches on the Pennine foothills in Calderdale, accessible via Junction 23 of the M62 then through Stainland on winding hill roads. Local routes connect to Ripponden and nearby villages through the valley system, whilst the A644 from Brighouse provides the main approach from Leeds direction. Over 150 EV charging points serve the area from surrounding towns and motorway services. The village sits on an ancient packhorse route between Lancashire and Yorkshire, with original stone bridges still spanning the local becks.
