Small Hythe is a tiny Kent hamlet that was once a thriving medieval port until the River Rother shifted course. Access is via the A28 through Tenterden, about 4km north, with most visitors coming from Canterbury or the coast for day trips. The narrow lanes demand careful driving, particularly in summer. Ellen Terry's former home, now a National Trust property, preserves the Victorian actress's theatrical collection exactly as she left it in 1928.
