3About Silvermines
Silvermines sits in the Tipperary hills, about 20 kilometres northeast of Nenagh and 35 kilometres from Limerick city. This former mining village gets its name from centuries of silver and lead extraction, and you'll still see the old workings and spoil heaps scattered about the place. The most direct route from Limerick takes the N7 toward Nenagh, then the R499 through Ballina up into the hills. The village is famous for having a GAA pitch built right on top of old mine workings, where hurling and football matches are played on ground that once rang with the sounds of industrial digging.
