Silkstone

Silkstone is a former mining village in South Yorkshire, positioned between Barnsley and the Pennine foothills. Reach it via Junction 37 of the M1, then the A628 west for 8 miles, or take local routes like the B6449 from Barnsley. The village sits on elevated ground with views across the Dearne Valley and maintains a rural character despite urban proximity. All Saints Church contains a memorial to 26 children killed in the 1838 Huskar Pit disaster.
