Shotley Gate

Shotley Gate perches at the tip of the Shotley Peninsula where the rivers Orwell and Stour converge, offering superb views across to Harwich and the Essex coast. Most visitors arrive via the A137 from Ipswich, then follow the B1456 through Holbrook - about 20 kilometres of pleasant Suffolk countryside. The HMS Ganges mast, standing 143 feet tall, remains the area's most recognisable landmark from the days when this was a major Royal Navy training base.
