Sheean lies along County Mayo's Atlantic coast, accessible via the N59 coastal road that links Westport and Ballina. From Dublin, it's a three-hour drive through Galway on the M4, M6, N17, and N59, while Cork visitors go via Limerick and Galway. The R314 offers a prettier inland alternative. Coastal roads can be tricky in winter storms, and EV drivers should plan charging stops as there are only two public fast chargers locally. The village church has a distinctive round tower built with stones hand-carried from a quarry five kilometers away, a three-generation community effort from the 1800s.
