Shannon

Ireland

Shannon lies 22 kilometers northwest of Limerick in County Clare, built around Ireland's longest river which has driven trade for centuries. The N18 connects directly to Limerick and Cork, while the M18 gives quick access to Galway, making it a handy base for exploring the west. Shannon Airport, just outside town, was home to the world's first duty-free shop back in 1947 when every transatlantic flight had to stop for fuel. The airport sits about 3 kilometers from the town center.
