Sandwood

Sandwood lies in Scotland's far northwest Highlands, reached via the A99 from Thurso then local single-track roads. It's roughly 150km from Inverness, serving visitors heading to the remote Cape Wrath peninsula. The scattered crofting community connects to nearby Kinlochbervie and tiny coastal settlements via roads requiring passing-place etiquette. The prize here is Sandwood Bay - a four-kilometre moorland walk leads to one of Scotland's finest beaches, complete with pink sand dunes and the towering sea stack Am Buachaille.
