Rooi Els is a tiny coastal village on the R44 between Gordon's Bay and Betty's Bay, backed by the Kogelberg mountains. Capetonians often take the N2 to Somerset West then the R44 for a scenic day trip, about 90 km each way, while locals nip through to Pringle Bay or Betty's Bay on the same stretch. No charging points in the village, so plug in before you leave Somerset West. Keep an eye out for the resident baboon troop, a common sight along the rocks here.
