About Port Carlisle

Port Carlisle is a small Cumbrian village on the Solway Firth, reached via the B5307 from the A689 near Kirkbride. Most visitors drive the 15km route from Carlisle through rural farmland, whilst long-distance travellers typically arrive via the M6 or Scottish routes through Carlisle. The village sits on flat coastal terrain where the River Eden meets the firth. Its most distinctive feature is the Victorian railway viaduct, now a footpath extending into the Solway Firth over tidal mudflats.
