Philipstown is a small Karoo dorpie in the Northern Cape, sitting right on the N10 between Colesberg (73 km) and De Aar (61 km), so it is an easy stop if you are cutting through on a long trip. Locals nip through to Petrusville or Vanderkloof for the dam, while the odd traveler rolls in from as far as Cape Town or Plettenberg Bay. Charging stations are thin on the ground here, so plan ahead if you are driving electric. Keep an eye out for the old sandstone Dutch Reformed church, still the tallest building in town.
