Orpington occupies the southeastern edge of Greater London, where suburban development meets the Kent countryside on the North Downs. The A232 provides the main connection to Croydon and central London, whilst the A21 offers direct routes into Kent and toward the capital via Bromley. Popular local journeys include the 25km run to Croydon and 30km to central London, with longer routes following the A21 south to the M25 for Kent destinations. The High Street remarkably preserves its medieval alignment, following the original Canterbury pilgrimage route.
