About Oakeley Square

Oakeley Square sits at the centre of Blaenau Ffestiniog, the former slate capital perched dramatically in Snowdonia's mountains. Reach it via the A470 from the south or A487/A496 from the coast, both involving steep climbs through spectacular scenery. The square is named after the Oakeley Slate Quarry, once the world's largest underground slate mine, whose vast caverns still lie beneath the town.
