Melcher-Dallas is a small farming community about 35 miles southeast of Des Moines via Interstate 35 and Highway 92. Highway 14 runs north-south through town, connecting to Knoxville and Chariton. The town of 1,200 formed in 1986 when two separate railroad communities, Melcher and Dallas, officially merged into one municipality.
