3About Hopetown
Hopetown, on the Orange River in the Northern Cape, is a handy stop-off on the N12 between Kimberley and the Cape interior, with Orania and Strydenburg being regular local runs for residents rather than tourist detours. Visitors often roll in from as far as Ladybrand, Stellenbosch or even Graaff-Reinet, so it's very much a stopover town on long hauls. EV drivers should plan ahead, chargers are thin on the ground out here. Fun fact: this is where the Eureka Diamond, 21.25 carats, was picked up on the riverbank in 1867, kicking off SA's diamond rush.
