3About Hindhead
Hindhead perches high on the Surrey Downs, crossed by the A3 London-Portsmouth road through its impressive tunnel that bypassed the treacherous Devil's Punch Bowl. Most visitors arrive via the A3 or A287 from Haslemere, with the area popular for walking the surrounding heathland. The elevated position creates a distinctive microclimate, often staying clear when fog settles in nearby valleys. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote parts of "The Hound of the Baskervilles" at the village's Royal Huts Hotel.
