This small Borders village sits in a sheltered valley where the Lothian countryside gives way to the Border hills. The A7 provides the primary access, with the journey from Edinburgh taking about 45 minutes through Dalkeith and Gorebridge. The village is home to one of Scotland's oldest railway viaducts, a striking 1849 stone structure still used by the Borders Railway.
